The national freight transport strike began Monday, October 26, and several roads in Jalisco have gatherings and slow traffic related to the strike.

The road to Puerto Vallarta is among the roads affected by the strike. For people traveling toward the coast, one reported demonstration point is on the road to Puerto Vallarta, on the side lane near the junction between the free and toll roads. Representatives of the transport sector warn that partial restrictions and slow traffic may occur on highway approaches. They also warn that the strike is open-ended.

Another reported point is the Acatlán de Juárez toll booth on the highway toward Colima. One reported demonstration point is on the road to Chapala toward the airport, between Periférico and Guadalajara’s airport terminal. A further point is in Zapotlanejo, next to the former toll booth near La Joya.

The Zapotlanejo highway, the Chapala road, and the Guadalajara-Colima highway are also among the affected routes. A report described heavy traffic and demonstration-related closures on the Zapotlanejo Highway between Tonaltecas and the Nueva Central Camionera. It also reported gatherings on the Zapotlanejo highway near the Nueva Central Camionera and on the Nogales road in La Venta del Astillero, at the western entrance to the city. The exit toward Zapotlanejo did not have a total closure, but it had partial restrictions in both directions and heavy vehicular traffic. The report said that motorists were putting their safety at risk by driving in the opposite direction.

The organizations calling the mobilizations say they are taking place without blocking traffic lanes. They also say vehicles are parked on side lanes and shoulders or traveling in caravans at low speed. A statement from Industriales Jalisco addressed to the business community says demonstrations are concentrated on the shoulders and side lanes at four points in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area. The gatherings may change location or intensity while the strike continues.
