Playa Holi turtle camp releases 31,000 hatchlings
Playa Holi’s sea turtle camp released approximately 31,000 hatchlings from July 15 to October 21.
The protection process begins with collecting eggs and safeguarding them in an incubation enclosure.
The work also includes monitoring turtles in incubation pens, followed by releasing the hatchlings into the sea.
Its stated purpose is to contribute to preserving the protected species.
Puerto Vallarta’s sea turtle season begins in July and can extend until November or December, depending on environmental conditions.
The conservation actions are promoted by the Municipal Government through the Directorate of Environmental Sustainability in collaboration with the civil association RANA A.C.
The Ayuntamiento is strengthening protection of the marine species with support from the Directorate and RANA A.C.
The protection work is carried out following the directives of mayor Luis Munguía.
Roberto Ornelas is the head of the Directorate of Environmental Sustainability.
The Directorate coordinates with PROFEPA and SEMARNAT, and PROFEPA and SEMARNAT conducted a joint inspection tour of the camp’s facilities.
The inspection was intended to strengthen sea turtle protection measures in Puerto Vallarta.
Turtles mainly arrive at the beaches at night, when they seek dark conditions for nesting.
Citizens are urged to avoid using flash and intense lights that could frighten turtles as they arrive at the beaches.
