Festival de las Almas expands to 11 Jalisco venues
The second edition of the Festival de las Almas will take place in 11 municipalities this year, with activities scheduled from October 24 to November 15.
For this edition, the festival will expand from six to 11 venues.
The participating municipalities are Guadalajara, Zapopan, Tlajomulco de Zúñiga, Chapala, Puerto Vallarta, Zapotlanejo, San Pedro Tlaquepaque, Sayula, Mazamitla, Lagos de Moreno, and Cocula.
San Pedro Tlaquepaque, Sayula, Mazamitla, Lagos de Moreno, and Cocula were added as venues for the second edition.
The festival will include around 350 activities related to Día de Muertos.
Michelle Fridman Hirsch, secretary of Tourism of Jalisco, said, “the festival has more than 350 activities in 11 municipalities.”
The activities will incorporate traditions, gastronomy, culture, and community participation in different destinations in Jalisco.
The 2026 edition will be organized around five common segments for all venues: El Umbral, El Camino, La Ofrenda, El Encuentro, and La Memoria.
Each municipality will adapt the five concepts to its own traditions, gastronomy, trades, heritage, and landscapes.
The announced installations include a large clay offering of approximately 25 square meters in San Pedro Tlaquepaque and a 22-meter Catrina planned for Zapotlanejo.
Lagos de Moreno will have monumental Catrinas approximately 20 meters tall, a 12-meter hacienda offering, and a Gran Cabalgata with more than 200 dressed-up charros.
Governor of Jalisco Pablo Lemus presented the 2026 edition of the festival on Monday, September 28, from Panteón de Belén in Guadalajara.
Lemus said the objective is to bring Día de Muertos representations to different regions of Jalisco, and that communities would be able to share their traditions with residents and national and international visitors.
The festival proposal seeks to expand visitors’ travel routes through Jalisco and strengthen tourism activity.
Fridman said the festival seeks to show how the night of the dead is commemorated in different regions of Jalisco.
She said the festival would showcase Jalisco’s enormous diversity.
For Vallarta Info readers, Puerto Vallarta is one of the 11 participating municipalities.
