Pavo Real pipe ruptures hit six Vallarta neighborhoods
Six Puerto Vallarta neighborhoods faced potable-water service problems for the second time during the same weekend after SEAPAL Vallarta announced another pipe rupture on Sunday, October 18.
The new rupture was reported on Pavo Real street in the Las Aralias area. The affected neighborhoods were Infonavit CTM, Las Aralias, Los Sauces, Vida Vallarta, Fovissste 96, and Ex Hacienda El Pitillal. Both reported ruptures affected the Las Aralias area, and two pipe ruptures were reported on Pavo Real street within three days.
The first failure occurred on Friday, October 16, at the intersection of Pavo Real and Canario. A damaged pipe caused service to be suspended in several neighborhoods in the area.
On Saturday, October 17, SEAPAL Vallarta reported that the repair had been completed after more than 12 hours of continuous work, with water supply in the process of normalization in Las Aralias, Infonavit CTM, Los Sauces, Fovissste 96, and Ex Hacienda El Pitillal.
For the second incident, SEAPAL Vallarta’s crews began repair work again. The operator estimated that potable-water service would be restored around 22:00 on Sunday, October 18, although the restoration time depended on the progress of the work.
The pipe has been in operation for more than 40 years, is made of asbestos, and has reached the end of its useful life.
The incident was reported at the intersection of Cenzontle and Pavoreal streets and mobilized Civil Protection and Firefighters personnel and Seapal Vallarta staff. Residents alerted Civil Protection.
A supply pipe reportedly burst at the intersection, and the reported burst caused a major water leak and damage to the road surface. A failure in the drinking-water network caused damage to the paving stones in the Aralias subdivision, and a considerable-sized sinkhole appeared there on Sunday morning.
