Palm Cabaret announces new season shows
The Palm Cabaret’s 27th season opens on Oct. 21 at 5 p.m. Monaco Band will perform a new show called Rewind at the season opening, with Daniel Celis and Gina Ibarra singing songs dating from the 1960s to the present.
Two new drag shows are scheduled at The Palm Cabaret this season: Hocus Pocus and La La Land. Hocus Pocus opens on Nov. 3 at 9 p.m., with additional shows on Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 6 at 9 p.m. It is an all-live-singing, 75-minute interactive cabaret produced and headlined by Summer Orlando. Hocus Pocus features Winnie, Mary and Sarah, portrayed by Summer Orlando, Felicity V. Lay and Miranda Miranda, respectively.
Orlando is described as New England’s No. 1 live-singing Winifred Sanderson impersonator and has appeared in Disney’s Hocus Pocus 2, off Broadway and across New England.
La La Land debuts at The Palm Cabaret on Nov. 9, with shows on Nov. 9, 13, 15, 20 and 23, all at 9 p.m. The production is an immersive theatrical experience combining live singing, comedy and fantasy, and stars Fonda LaFemme and Elle Laganda. LaFemme is a live vocalist known for her polished presentation, extravagant looks and quick wit; Laganda is classically trained in opera and performs stunts.
Coco Cabaret opens again with a Chris Lopez production of Halloween on Oct. 30 at 8 p.m. Two new circus-related shows are being added this season, one at each cabaret. Circoncierto opens at The Palm Cabaret on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 5 p.m. It is a physical comedy and clown show featuring two clowns, intended for audiences of all ages; its description says it combines music and circus and includes slapstick comedy.
ODA opens at Coco Cabaret on Thursday, Nov. 26, at 5 p.m. The stage production combines dance-theater and circus to explore the body’s limits and compositional possibilities. ODA will require eight additional people, including musicians. Airotic features athletic and gymnastic acts that often fly over the audience on silk ropes.
Several returning tribute artists also have new shows. Adele tribute artist Gloria Fiona, Lady Gaga tribute artist Maru Prado Conti, Freddie Mercury tribute artist Roy Cruz and Pink tribute artist Eva Jimenez are returning with new shows. Some tribute artists who were just getting started when last season abruptly ended will return, while new artists will debut at both cabarets. All but one of the performers in the two new drag shows have never been to Vallarta, and some of the new artists are traveling from as far away as Denmark. Some of the new artists now call Vallarta home.
Tromba Vetusta is the name used for the combined talents of Alejandra Matus and Dabit Azofeifa, who are both Costa Rican. Matus is a classically trained singer who plays a saw; Azofeifa is a clown, contortionist, mime, juggler, guitarist and accordion player.
