Limpia tu Mar Puerto Vallarta A.C. is organizing Puerto Vallarta’s Third International Trash Fishing Tournament, an event that replaces traditional game fishing with marine debris removal.

The tournament’s second edition took place at Los Muertos Pier, where volunteers collected 3.5 tons of marine debris. The inaugural tournament, held in October 2024, resulted in participants removing 2.3 tons of trash from the bay. The tournament’s goal is to remove as much waste from the ocean as possible while bringing community attention to the global issue of marine pollution.

The event brings together residents, local businesses, and visitors, and the community is working to safeguard the natural resources that sustain local tourism and support marine life. Rigoberto Pedroza Jagger is the president and founder of Limpia tu Mar A.C. Organizers hope that putting volunteers in direct contact with waste floating in the bay will inspire long-term changes in household garbage management. Pedroza emphasized that ocean conservation starts before garbage reaches the shore.

Limpia tu Mar A.C. is already working behind the scenes on the tournament. A formal press conference will take place soon to share full details of the tournament with the public. The official tournament rules and registration details have not yet been released. Effective waste management begins at home through reducing plastic use, recycling, and properly separating trash.
