Hundreds Join Mega Rodada PV Ride for Safer Bicycle Route to Mismaloya
Hundreds of cyclists took part in the Mega Rodada PV on Sunday, September 20, in Puerto Vallarta. Led by the MOVCI collective and other cycling groups, the mobilization began at 9:30 a.m. from the Arcos del Malecón area.
The group traveled along the road to Mismaloya, with stops at Conchas Chinas, the Arcos de Mismaloya, and Boca de Tomatlán, according to the organizers. The route was to return to downtown afterward.
The ride sought authorities’ attention for a safe bicycle lane between downtown Puerto Vallarta and Mismaloya. One of its main objectives is to promote a tourist bicycle lane connecting downtown with Mismaloya and later Boca de Tomatlán.
The collectives’ demand forms part of a request they have made for several years to improve Puerto Vallarta’s bicycle infrastructure. The mobilization also sought to highlight safety needs for people who use bicycles in the city.
Participants said they currently have to share the road with vehicles and consider infrastructure that would allow safer travel necessary in the area. Cyclists in the southern part of the municipality sought to highlight mobility and safety needs, according to the participants’ position.
MOVCI members said the proposal had already been presented to Pablo Lemus, governor of Jalisco. They said Lemus committed to reviewing the project’s feasibility but did not offer a concrete response at that time.
At the end of the route, organizers described the participants’ response as positive. They thanked the cyclists who joined the call, the various collectives that actively participated in support of the bicycle infrastructure project, Protección Civil, and the Comisaria de Seguridad Pública.
To trace the event’s reported itinerary, start at the Arcos del Malecón area, continue toward Conchas Chinas and the Arcos de Mismaloya, and finish at Boca de Tomatlán before returning downtown.
