Puerto Vallarta, Cuale Church

Cuale, Puerto Vallarta

Cuale, from where our river in Vallarta gets its name, is a small mining town nestled in a valley and quite remote. The mine is all but played out now and there is a new sawmill to provide employment. There's also the ruin of a smaller mine nearby, see below right. Cuale is not visited by tourists, there are no hotels but accommodation can be found if you know where to look.
There are only three telephones in the whole town and the bus from Vallarta only comes twice a week. There are many lovely spots in the valley with waterfalls and horse tours are available upon request, a five day experience of the Sierras.

Getting there: There's a bus which runs twice a week, from Colonia Buenos Aires (church square), not sure of the schedule or cost, another project for me. You can also drive there in about 4-5 hours. Just go to Paso Ancho and keep going on that road. This is probable best done in the dry season. Considerable work is being done on the road and travel time may now be less
No hotels, but you can get a room from Lydia who has the large Abarrotes store in town.
