Page photo for Asian Restaurants in Vallarta.

There has been an Asian influence in Mexico for hundreds of years, since Colonial Times, when many Filipinos came via the Manilla Treasure Galleon, to Acapulco. The popular street drink Tuba originated in the Philippines. The 1st on the list was started by an American/Filipino, ex paratrooper, Archie Alpenia.

Archie was the private chef to the Director John Huston at his residence on Las Caletas Beach, for many years. When John returned to the US because of his health, Archie and wife Cynthia, daughter Kiyoki and son Sergio, opened Archie’s Wok on Francisca Rodriguez #130, the street that meets the new pier. A wonderful fusion of many Asian cuisines makes the menu amazing. F. Rodriguez #130, tel. 222-0411.
